Regina Scott

2017 - Third place this year was awarded to a young lady, Regina Scott of Tulsa, OK, who made the cut to the top five in 2014 and took third place in 2016. This 15-year old has been playing the fiddle since she was 5-years old. At 15 she is a Sophomore Student at Holland Hall School where her favorite subjects are math and science and says her favorite subject is chemistry. Regina says she plays piano, mandolin, guitar and a little ukulele. Regina loves entering this contest and also loves to eat all the wonderful food found at the Festival.

Daniel Worden

2015 - This is the second time for Daniel Worden to enter this contest and he placed third. He hails from Kremmling, CO. Daniel is currently in EMT School and about to graduate. In addition to playing the mountain dulcimer, Daniel also builds them. In fact Daniel made the one he played in the competition. He started playing the dulcimer when he was around eight years old. Daniel also plays the guitar and fiddle. Being a luthier, woodworking and the outdoors are his hobbies when not studying or playing the mountain dulcimer.

Freddy Brown

2015 - Second place was awarded to Freddy Brown a retired gentleman from Scottsville, KY. This was his first time to enter the mountain dulcimer contest but he has entered other contests and has placed in Louisville, KY and Murfreesboro, TN. He has been playing the mountain dulcimer for about 10 years. In addition to the dulcimer Freddy also plays the piano and the lowed psaltery. His hobbies include being a Ham Radio operator, doing genealogy and curing country hams.

Garrett Wren

2015 - Garrett Wren, a 26-year old mandolin player from Takoma Park, MD placed 3rd in this year’s competition. Garrett in real life is an ESL teacher, teaching Korean and he will soon be moving to Harpers Ferry, VA. This was Garrett’s first time to enter this contest. He has been playing the mandolin for almost half of his life and in addition to mandolin he also plays the guitar. Some of his hobbies include reading, writing, films, and hockey.

Garrett will take back to MD and/or VA the 3rd Place Trophy and a Clark F5 Mandolin by Clark Mandolins of Boise, ID.
