2006 - In 2006, Scott Pearson, from Warren, PA placed third in the mandolin competition. This is the eighth time he has entered this contest. In 1993 and 2005 he placed third, in 2003 and 2004 it was second. At the age of 14 his parents gave him his first mandolin and for the next 20 or so years Scott has been playing this instrument. In addition he plays the guitar and fiddle. Scott calls coming to Winfield, “the family’s annual trip.” You see his wife plays a pretty good fiddle. She won the fiddle contest here at the Festival in 1998. This Quality Control Manager is a busy man, he plays in two bands, (Church Street Blues and Beaver Creek) and he and his wife play as a duet. Scott and his wife have three children. He likes playing golf and tennis; he likes to hunt and most of all he loves playing with their three children ages 6 and 3 and 10 months. The third place trophy and a Rigel CT-110 Mandolin by Rigel Instruments of Cambridge, VT will go back to Warren, PA with Scott. He will be back again next year because of “all the great people, especially Ed and Jeannine Foster” who manage the contests at the Festival.
