Kati Penn & NewTown

Years at Winfield:

Kati Penn, a native of Lexington, KY, is one of bluegrass's premier up-and-coming artists, receiving both popular and critical acclaim for her vocals and fiddle work.

Kati has been a professional musician for over half her life, and has a keen ear for the right material to fit The Kati Penn Band. Kati has played and sang on HUNDREDS of cd's over the last ten years. She has been a member of The Young Acoustic AllstarsThe New Coon Creek Girls,Dale Ann Bradley and Coon CreekPam Gadd and The Long RoadThe Jim Hurst Band, and many more. She has played on the Grand Ole Opry, TNN's Crook and Chase, and many more awesome venues!

Kati loves her cute little puppy dogs, her cool hubby Jr., her fiddle students, playing tennis, walking, chocolate, shopping, her very cool parents, her friends, and going to church!

CJ Cain, guitarist for the group, also from Lexington, KY, started playing blues guitar in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Kenny Wayne Shepherd at a young age. CJ laid down his Stratocaster when he heard the amazing guitar work of Tony Rice. (He hasn't been right since!) He also loves The Infamous Stringdusters, going to Rockygrass, hangin' out with Frank Powell, talking about music, Bryan Sutton's guitar playing, guitars, Blues, Reggae, and the Newgrass Revival. CJ attends college at The University Of Kentucky.

James Kee, joined the Kati Penn Band in November, 2007 playing mandolin and singing low tenor and lead. You’ve more than likely seen James out on the road with The Anita Fisher BandBarry ScottRyan Holladay, and Stone County Connection just to name a few. Not only can James pick the fire out of a mandolin, he’s equally talented on the banjo and guitar. When he’s not on the road, James is working at his landscaping business while attending the University in his hometown of Chattanooga, TN. James proudly endorses Hill Mandolins.

Terry Poirier, joined the Kati Penn Band in November, 2008 playing bass and singing lead and harmony vocals. He is from New Brunswick, Canada, and has been playing bass for most of his life. In addition to performing, Terry is also a d.j. on www.worldwidebluegrass.com, and just recently moved to Lexington, KY with his new wife, Holly.
