Kane's River

Years at Winfield:

Surely one of the brightest spots on the ever-growing bluegrass map is Montana/Idaho, which is the home of Kane's River. Now officially a quintet, Kane's River consists of John Lowell (guitar), Julie Elkins (banjo), David Thompson (acoustic bass), Jason Thomas (fiddle) and Ben Winship (mandolin) with all members, save Thomas, contributing vocals.

Bozeman, Montana isn't well-known as a home for bluegrass, but then, Kane’s River isn't a typical bluegrass band. Though its members have no problem finding their way around the bluegrass classics, Kane’s River's strength lies in the diversity of the individual members and the way their original music is shaped by the big sky and wide open spaces of the western landscape, where they live.

While Kane's River remained near the pinnacle of the Bluegrass National Charts for several months, the band has catapulted to the national level and hailed to be one of the brightest rising stars on the scene. The release of their long-awaited second recording, "Same River Twice" in August of 2003 gave them even greater success as it has been received with rave reviews from critics and fans throughout the nation.

With dynamic lead vocalists and outstanding harmonies, all members of Kane’s River are also gifted instrumentalists and songwriters. Together, they display a unique and lively stage presence, all of which has resulted in them becoming one of the industry‘s most highly sought-after bands to perform at some of the acoustic music world‘s most prestigious events and venues.
