| | About Stage Five …
In 1987, Russ & Shari Brace of Wichita brought an old wheat truck to Winfield upon which they erected a little stage where campers could perform. To say that the idea caught on is an understatement. In recent years, one had to sign up on Wednesday just to get a spot on Stage Five. Even though the sets are generally only 30 minutes in length, there are still too many to squeeze into the weekend.
A few of the paid (main stages) performers have made arrangements to play on this campground stage. The list includes Spontaneous Combustion, Linda Tilton, Tommy Emmanuel and Beppe Gambetta. In fact, Beppe was once quoted in a national guitar magazine that Stage Five was his favorite place in the entire United States.
Campground neighbors used to enjoy the show from their own campsite, but, as crowds grew over the years, it became harder for them to see. Their answer was to build a skybox in their campsite from which to view Stage Five.
With such a wide variety of talent on Stage Five, it's impossible to capture with only one sound sample, so I won't even try. Instead, I'll just share a sample when a friend of mine, Brian Henke (from Ohio), was playing.
